Dubbo: Whylandra Waste and Recycling Centre

Dubbo Regional Council's Whylandra Waste and Recycling Centre is on Cooba Road, off the Narromine Road, about 15 km west of Dubbo. It's cashless, and asbestos customers aren't admitted after 4:15pm. Contact the centre before you bring asbestos. The NSW EPA lists Whylandra as a facility that accepts household asbestos.

Wellington Waste Transfer Station

The Wellington Waste Transfer Station on Nanima Village Road takes small loads of bonded asbestos sheeting (up to a box-trailer load) by appointment only, correctly wrapped in plastic. Call 02 6840 1778 first.

Narromine Waste Management Facility

Narromine Shire Council's Narromine Waste Management Facility is on Gainsborough Road. Council lists it as open Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 9am to 4pm (gates shut at 3:45pm), closed Tuesday, Thursday and every public holiday. The NSW EPA lists it as accepting household asbestos; phone (02) 6889 9950 first.

Village transfer stations

Dubbo Regional Council's five village transfer stations (Ballimore, Eumungerie, Geurie, Stuart Town and Toongi) are for local residents' household waste, and loads over 1 m³ aren't accepted. Don't take asbestos there.

Before you load anything

  • Phone the facility first. Booking rules, accepted amounts and fees change.
  • Don't break sheets to fit them in. Keep the material damp and wrapped in heavy-duty plastic, taped and labelled as the facility requires.
  • Never put asbestos in a general skip, wheelie bin, kerbside clean-up or a council transfer station that doesn't list it.
  • Moving more than 100 kg or 10 m² of asbestos sheeting triggers WasteLocate reporting to the NSW EPA.
  • If it's more than 10 m², or friable, it must be removed by a licensed removalist, who usually handles disposal too.
