Asbestos in Wongarbon
Like many villages around Dubbo, Wongarbon has older homes and sheds built when fibro and asbestos-cement were common. Before you renovate, extend or demolish, get any suspect sheeting tested. See how testing works.
Disposal
Wongarbon isn't one of Dubbo Regional Council's village transfer stations. The nearest facility that accepts asbestos is the Whylandra Waste and Recycling Centre west of Dubbo. Contact the centre first and arrive before 4:15pm. A licensed removalist will usually handle disposal as part of the job.
Who can remove it
In NSW, SafeWork NSW says a licensed professional must remove any friable asbestos and any amount of bonded (non-friable) asbestos over 10 m², and it recommends a licensed professional for any amount. See the NSW rules guide.
